Closed

We went through the final closing process today. It was pretty painless, though there were a lot of signatures. DHI Title organized the whole thing very well.

It started with an online signing session when I first got up in the morning. There are a number of documents that need to be signed and the online portion was about 33% of the total. All documents were easy to follow.

Then we went to the lot about an hour early to look at the surveyor stakes on Logmill Road. We wanted to see where our property really started and stopped. The stakes are fairly recent and easy to find.

Next, we met the Construction Manager, George, at the house to do a final final walk thru. There are still a small number of open items but most issues were addressed since the initial walk thru. The house looked great! There are still a small number of outstanding items - a cabinet door in the master bath needs to be replaced, the driveway and other land keeps settling, and one of the trees looks like it's not going to make it. George acknowledged all and we know he's good for them. So we were ready to sign!

A really nice touch is that they left a lot of leftover paint, flooring, and tile in the house so that we have some materials for repairs if needed in the future. It sounds like a simple thing but really glad they did that. It's always a PITA to replicate the materials used when making a small repair.

We've seen the house so many times we're getting tired of it. But the view out the back windows is still exciting.

The kitchen is also cool-looking, though a little smaller than our current home.

And then there's the master bathroom. We figure we might as well share and let everyone give us a hard time sooner rather than later.

The signing was quite painless. DR Horton has a Notary attend and manage the signing. The Title Company staff manage it all from the office so that changes can be made quickly. The only change we needed was the address on the Deed. Apparently our home location can belong to two different addresses - two zip codes, actually (20155 for Gainesville and 20143 for Catharpin). We made all the documents consistent using the Gainesville zip. I assume the Postal Service will let us know if need to change it.

So the next entry will be after we've moved in. Woohoo! The current plan is to take the next 9 days to move stuff over with the big stuff moving on 14 June. We're almost there!
